New territory brings new troubles for the fierce cats of the warrior Clans, who are still uncovering the secrets of their new home around the lake. Dangers they have never faced before are lurking in the twilight shadows, and former allies are acting strangely hostile.
As divisions between the Clans grow deeper, Firestar's daughters face troubling decisions. One is torn between loyalty to her calling and a forbidden love, while the other struggles with her best friend's betrayal and the surprising perils of the forest. The choices they make now could affect ThunderClan for generations to come...and with an unexpected enemy preparing to attack, their courage and strength will be needed more than ever if the Clan is to survive.
Children's Literature
Firestar. Dustpelt. Squirrelflight. Brambleclaw. These are four of the more than fifty feline characters in the sixth title from the series Warriors: The New Prophecy. One has to love both cats and fantasy to enjoy this sequel. Not only that, but starting with the sixth book without knowing all the characters makes the story nearly impossible to follow. Because of the many characters, readers may have to consult the list at the beginning of the book, which is longer than a Shakespeare play. Nevertheless, life is never dull for the clans of feral cats that inhabit the forest around a lake. They spend their time hunting, training as warriors, apprenticing as medicine cats, and fending off enemiesincluding badgers, humans, and other cats. All the felines are categorized under clan names such as Shadowclan, Riverclan, and Windclan, and there seems to be constant conflict among them. The cats all talk to each other, presumably in a language only other cats understand, using expressions such as bossy furball and mousebrain, insults in the cat world. It is recommended that readers of this YA novel start with Book One of the series if they do not want to be totally confused.
