Children's Literature
In Volume Two of the "Dragonology Chronicles," 12-year-old Daniel and his sister Beatrice continue their studies with Dr. Drake as apprentice dragonolists. Daniel becomes extremely frustrated because he has difficulty with the dragon language, and the new hatchling Torcher prefers Beatrice. He worries that he will never become a full-fledged dragonologist. But then his worries seem insignificant in light of news that his parents have been kidnapped. They had been in India working to save the dying naga from the plague that threatens all of the dragons. Nia, another apprentice, arrives from Texas with her father who immediately leaves with Dr. Drake for India. Daniel, Beatrice, Nia, and their friend Darcy discover that there is a cure for the sickness but the secret lies hidden in the Dragon Master's Chamber in London. They travel with their young dragon Torcher to retrieve the chalice and the dragon diary Liber Draconis that will enable them to create the cure. The children narrowly escape evil dragon hunter Shadwell and are rescued by the Parisian dragon Pantheon who sends them on a thrilling adventure as they travel by Dragon Express to India and China in their quest to save the world's dragons from the plague and the control of the evil Russian dragonologist Alexandra Gorynytchka and to rescue their parents. Carrel's drawings bring to life the different types of dragons in this exciting adventure. Reviewer: Shirley Nelson
